CPP READINESS OVERVIEW

Thank you for your interest in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP). This tool assesses two areas of readiness: Readiness to Implement CPP and Readiness for CPP Training. The descriptions below will help to determine which areas are necessary for your agency to assess at this time.

Agency Readiness to Implement CPP

Readiness to implement involves having policies and procedures that allow for the provision of CPP services to fidelity. The purpose of this tool is to provide your agency with valuable information to support successful implementation of CPP. Answers are not meant to exclude you from offering CPP, but as a starting point for conversations with your senior leadership, funders and/or CPP trainers in preparation for CPP implementation. It is important that you are accurate in your answers so that challenges can be identified and addressed prior to implementation and in order to best support successful CPP in your agency.

This tool is for:

Agencies who are interested in implementing CPP for the first time.
Agencies who implement CPP, but are having challenges that they want to better understand and address.

Agency Readiness for CPP Training

Readiness for CPP Training involves preparing your agency to successfully complete the training requirements for a CPP Learning Collaborative. The purpose of this tool is to provide you and any potential CPP trainer(s) information to support successful learning of CPP. Answers are not meant to exclude you from participating in a CPP Learning Collaborative. Rather, they serve as a starting point for conversations with your senior leadership, funders and/or CPP trainers to see how ready your team is to start CPP training. This tool can also help to build a training budget to meet your CPP training needs. It is important to answer accurately so that challenges can be identified and addressed prior to the CPP training and to best support a successful CPP training for your agency.

Foundational Phase: Assessment and Engagement

Core Intervention Phase

Trauma-Informed Implementation

Providing trauma treatment is challenging work, particularly when it involves the safety and well-being of young children. Implementation challenges can arise when a trauma-informed framework is not considered at an agency level.

What level of trauma is considered when determining case assignments and caseloads?(Required)

This may include balancing caseloads with both lower risk and higher risk cases or lowering productivity when working with high-risk or complex cases where the case management and safety concerns are higher.

Trauma can affect the way families engage with treatment. For example, they may fear systems involvement due to past history with systems. They may experience mental health challenges (e.g. depression and PTSD) that make it difficult to engage in services or have had challenging interpersonal experiences that would naturally lead to lower levels of trust and more difficulty establishing rapport.

CPP training is more efficient and sustainable when participants go through the 18-month process as part of an agency team (see information here). CPP Cases

During the CPP Learning Collaborative, clinicians must provide CPP to children under age 6 who have experienced at least one traumatic event. This is the most common training challenge for agency teams. For more details, review Component 3 of the training agreements here.

Training Time and Materials

1. Clinical team members are required to attend 3 learning sessions, totalling 42 content hours. The initial core CPP didactic training (18 hours) occurs at the start of Learning Collaborative. Two competency building workshops (12 hours each) occur approximately 6 and 12 months into the training.
